Description | This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish relationships, clarify needs, and then work collaboratively with people who are living with mental health issues.
This unit applies to support workers in contexts outside the mental health sector, but who come into contact with people with mental health issues. The services and support provided are not mental health specific. |

Purpose | This unit is for anyone who may encounter people who have mental health issues in their workplace or community. This includes case workers, youth workers, pastoral care and community services workers. | |||||||||

Duration | The course is delivered over a 4 week period with a total of approximately 80 hours, comprising of supervised training, self-paced training and supervised assessments. | |||||||||
Entry Requirements | UMA College require learners to be aged 18 years or older and present photo Identification prior to course commencement. | |||||||||
Qualification Requirements | On successfully completing the training and assessment you will be issued a Statement of Attainment issuing you the unit of competency: CHCMHS001 – Work with people with mental health issues; as nationally recognised training. | |||||||||
Assessment Requirements | The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:
• worked with at least 3 people with mental health issues in ways that support individual empowerment and recovery through: The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. Skills must be demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions. Where simulation is used, it must reflect real working conditions by modelling industry operating conditions and contingencies, as well as, using suitable facilities, equipment and resources. |

Delivery Mode | Face-to-face in a classroom setting, simulated workplace and online. | |||||||||
Materials or Equipment Required | Learners should attend the course in comfortable clothing. All equipment and consumables are supplied as part of the course. | |||||||||
